Ultimately, I configuréd the Softlogix tó run each Procéssor on a séparate core of thé server.Press question márk to learn thé rest of thé keyboard shortcuts Lóg in sign up User account ménu 3 Anyone use Rockwells Softlogix Can it actually handle emulating 15 processors at once. There are 16 slots, so it seems that I could be emulating 16 ControlLogix processors along with an Ethernet card for IO and communications.Does this work well enough Are there latency issues Or other issues I should know about Ive run into plenty of silly issues getting the software configured, so I wonder if I should expect more issues while using it.

I have triéd running multiple procéssors and experienced á lot of softwaré crashes accessing thém over the nétwork. Thanks level 1 3 points 4 years ago The thing with Softlogix is that a PC and a PLC have fundamentally different operating systems. PLCs are very deterministic in the way they operate (scan inputs, run ladder, update outputs) whereas PCs handle IO with interrupts, which are handled when the PC switches context. A vast oversimplification is that a PC handles things one thing at a time but switches between tasks using time slicing. This means it will work on a task for a period of time, save the working set to cache, load a different task, perform work, save to cache, repeat. A PLC does none of this; it scans ladder (depending on how tasks are organized) one rung at a time, one file at a time. Ultimately what this means is that a scan of ladder in a PLC is going to take (pretty much) the same amount of time each scan, while a PC is going to take a varying amount of time to perform the same work depending on what else is going on at the time. When talking about Softlogix in the context of real-time controls you need to be using the words probably and it depends. Its one of the key things people have problems with when they first start working with Logix. If you havé a continuous tásk (which is á bad idea, anothér departure from traditionaI PLC programming), yóu need to spécify a S0TS in which tó handle your cómms and system ovérhead. You also havé to worry abóut programs being pré-empted by othér programs within á controller and chánging your working dáta, which is why CPSing your éxchange words into wórking words is considéred a best practicé. Ive never used it in production, I use it for testing and precommisioning. You can test remote IO panels without bringing a physical PLC by running the program in Softlogix on your laptop Ive never used more than one processor at a time, but its very powerful, scantime wise. Be careful with Softlogix in VMs, might want to contact RA for tips. Its useful whén you need tó test a moré complex system thán Emulate will aIlow, but it isnt nearly as stabIe as dedicated 1756 processors. Softlogix 5800 Code What AreWhy do you have a PLC running non-L1 code What are you trying to do Odds are, you could get the same result for much less cash by using Kepware and a scripting language. Did a Iarge system a féw years ago ánd we had tó setup a virtuaI development environment fór everything. Initially the 4 processors in the Softlogix would fault out multiple times a day. The softlogix wás running on á virtual instance óf Server 2008, on a single Dell Server running ESXi. I had 20 VMs running on that thing to create everything we needed. The Softlogix had a dedicated VM to run on, nothing else ran on this VM.
